The recent flooding in Northeast Tennessee and North Carolina has brought unimaginable hardship to so many. We invite you to join us in both prayer and action to help those affected. Your support is crucial as we begin the long journey of recovery and rebuilding.
Any donations made to Holston Habitat for Humanity will be used to provide long-term housing solutions for families primarily in Carter and Unicoi counties in Tennessee. Resources will also be diverted as needed to other parts of Holston Habitat's service area.
The order of operations of long-term recovery will generally look like the following:
1. All local municipalities and emergency management agencies scan the region, addressing immediate safety concerns. Primary focus is put on meeting urgent housing, health, food, water, and safety needs of all regional residents, as well as restoring critical community infrastructure. This can take weeks.
2."Mucking Out" begins, AKA removing debris, mud, and all foreign materials from housing so that housing units can begin drying out in order to assess and rebuild. This will take months.
3. Rebuilding begins. This happens in various forms and fashions. New housing will be needed, and significant rehabilitations will also be needed. The size and scope of this is not clear until in-depth assessments are made by residents, local officials, insurance companies, and more. Once we know the damage, this is where Holston Habitat will help, and where your donations will be used: to fund long-term housing solutions for local residents. This will take years. Please consider giving generously so that Holston Habitat can respond as quickly as possible, and help as many families as possible.
We are grateful for this region, for a community that stands together in a time of crisis.
Together, we will rebuild. ❤️
